What happens if my DS sits all his A levels a year early?

I've posted this on higher ed as well I don't usually post in the education sections so don't know which is best is the best place, I've also name changed to protect my DS's identity.
Please can someone advise me. My very bright DS is at very well known super selective independent he's in the top 15 for most subjects the top five for maths and physics. He's just sat his IGCSE's and doesn't wish to stay on for the 6 th form he wants to attend our local 6 th form college. He looked at the AS maths paper and can answer all the questions, he looked at the A2 maths paper and can answer 6/8 ditto physics and French. The college have suggested he does maths, physics and French A2 at the end of year 12 and a Further Maths German and one other A2 of his choice (Italian probably) at the end of year 13.
He wants to do physics probably at IC but I thought you had to sit the subjects you wanted to do at Uni at the end of year 13 or could he apply at he end of year 12 (2015) and defer till 2016?

IME you do not have to study the subjects until the end of Y13. For Imperial he'd really need to make sure that he does get the grades on the first sitting, and does something to continue to extend his knowledge/show interest in aspects relating to the study of physics even though he is no longer studying these subjects at 6th form. You could also have him (not you; doesn't look as good when 'mum does it for you') contact the admissions tutors at Imperial to discuss things, and make sure he signs up for open day visits at the department.

He attempted last years AS's and got 95% + on all papers 70% + on the. A2's this is with no revision and no specific teaching for AS/A2. The college can't time table six subjects in two years so that's why they suggested he did three at the end of year 12 and three at the end of year 13.
Thanks for the advise about contacting the admissions depts I will get him to do this.

Sounds like a bright boy :) Good luck to him.

Is there any reason why he can't simply go to university a year early?

One of my cousin's children sat her A levels a year early. She then had a year off before going to uni. During her year off, she studied a couple of things at a college in evening classes, learnt to drive and did some charity work. The reasoning behind this, was that she would have had problems integrating into university as a 17 year old, thinking of the social scene etc. She did obtain her uni place at 17 though and then deferred for a year, which I don't know if you can do now. She will start her final year of a 6 year Vet course after the summer.
