Does your child get full Careers Advice?

May I ask mums of year 7-11's if you know what Careers Education lessons your children are offered via your schools (both comprehensive and independent)? For example, do you know if your year 7-11's have had many careers lessons e.g. some kind of psychometric, job families, gentle introduction to opportunities and pathways, employability etc?

I ask, as statutory duty to provide careers education lessons was removed by the government in 2011. This meant schools could then decide to do no careers lessons at all - or use teachers and not qualified Careers Advisers to run them.

Also, if you have a year 11 - were they offered a full careers 1:1 with a qualified Careers Adviser prior to college application deadlines (Nov-end Jan) to discuss their full Post 16 Options?

I ask, as many full time careers advisers who had been based in schools (and paid for by the government) were removed in 2011 in order to increase 'impartiality' and now schools have been asked to buy in services and some/many can't find the money (as no funding was given).

For example, some of the schools I engage with are only offering 1:1 sessions to specific students considered in greatest need and not all students irrespective of home background or academics.

I just wondered what is happening nationally?
Many thanks!
