Newcastle School for Boys

DS has been offered a scholarship for Newcastle school for boys. We applied as our local secondary schools aren't great with the exception of the catholic school. Rather unexpectedly (we're not catholic), he's also been offered a place at the catholic school so we now have a choice and we're having great difficulty making it.
The catholic school is huge (1500 pupils), the private is about 400 and all boys. I would like to ask if anyone on here has a boy at the school and what they think of it. It seems daft to turn down a place at a good state school but I'm worried about him being one of so many and forgotten about as he's quite quiet. It also seems wrong to turn down a scholarship but even with half the fees paid for it's a lot of money and the schools results aren't significantly higher than the state school . Any advice at all would be appreciated.

Do you mean RGS Newcastle? If so, its not all boys and its bigger than 400 but a fair way. Sorry, if there is another one I am forgetting. If it is that one, its a good school, but if the pastoral system at the state school is good then the size shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Both our children go to Newcastle School for boys. One of the main reasons we chose it is because it is a small. It has excellent pastoral care and all the teachers know the families really well. Both boys are making excellent academic progress and are invloved in a variety of extra curricular activities.
