Ok,.music: what's bad/average/good for start of yr 7?

I'm in, but not really sure what you are asking Grin.

To me, what might be a good/bad/average start depends on the individual child.

Not sure what you are asking either.

Music is one of those subjects where there will be a very wide range of abilities dependinng how much has been done in primary school.

if I recall correctly (DD1 now yr11), levels were lower than Eng/Maths/Science. Level 4a/5c was the highest her school were giving in yr7.

Do you mean music grades rather than NC scores? Grade 5 at start of year 7 is usually considered very good, but there's a huge range.

If you mean NC grades, then the music teacher in my department (am head of Performing Arts) has mostly given 3a-5c to Yr 7s. Those who got 5c are rare. It depends on what kind of music provision they had at primary school, and a bit on natural ability. Early days though.
