Y7/8 algebra. Helpful resources pls!

Anyone know a good book to help DS with? He's 'OK' with it but obv not doing that well. Not sure the fundamentals are in place (BO/IDMAS etc) and need to revise myself as I did O level Maths in 1977...

Would the khan academy tutorials be any use?

Hi, (am a home edder whose no good at maths and never did that sort of level) we used Conquer maths site together which did the trick. Hth.

Khan are very good resources, but don't follow English national curriculum, which may or may not be a problem.

How much was 'conquer maths' to use, if you don't mind me asking?

Afraid it wont mean much as I got together with other parents so that we could bring the costs right down. You could try the same thing, or try talking to CM about just accessing the bit you want. (Don't know if they will but nothing ventured ...)

It also might be worth checking school don't have a subsciption to them or similer.

If you double click on the titles it will give you the solutions (in word) and son (who's smarter and more numerate than me) reckons you should be able to work backwards.

I dont know what it is like, but if it is free it is worth a try first.
The thing about algebra is it is conceptual. If he doesn't understand the concepts that are involved, then he really needs someone to sit with him and explain. If you can do that then great, otherwise a friend or family member. A tutor may help for 1 or 2 sessions.
