Question about council tax in Glasgow

We just received our council tax bill for band F and it is 337 a month. This seems kind of high. When I search our address it shows 2029.63. But 337 a month is 4044. Is the 2029 only for 6 months?

2029.63 is full year, but excludes water rates. This is the link to Glasgow Council. 337 pm looks wrong.

What period is it for and when do instalments start?

If the full charge is £2029 then its £202 over 10 months or £169 over 12 months. However, if you've moved in part way through the year, you can only pay over the remaining months and the charge will be apportioned. So if you moved in in August then your bill will cover August to March with 6 or 7 instalments. However, if you moved in in April and you've only just been killed, then you will have a bigger charge over fewer months, if you see what I mean. Look at the full amount, not the monthly rate.

They are charging us from 12/8/2017 through 31/3/2018. Just over 5 months so the total for that period on the bill is 1685.37. But that doesn't add up to the correct amount.

I think what they may have done is charged us for 337 for 12.8.17 - 1.10.17 which is 1 1/2 months which would be around 337 and then instead of charging us for the correct amount the following months just entered the 337 each month. 1685 sounds high for 5 months.

Is it possible they made a mistake and who would I contact to sort it out. Thanks so much! We just moved from the US (well I am still in the US but my husband and daughter are in Glasgow).

thanks for everyone's assistance.

Ok, you're being charged for 232 days. The charge for the full year is £2651.55. The daily charge is therefore 2651.55/365=7.26
£7.26x232 days=£1685.36.

You've not said how many instalments you've been offered but the first one must be October if you have just received the bill so the most you can have is 6 but the figures you've quoted suggest you have 5 instalments from October to February. £1685/5=£337 or thereabouts. Bill sounds spot on to me. You could call the council and ask for an extra instalment in March to make the monthly payments smaller but the total amount won't change. Equally, you could make a payment now in September and ask them to recalculate. You'll be paying the same amount but over more instalments.
Please don't think of the instalment as a payment for the month, council tax is a daily charge calculated over the financial year.

By the way, you only get two reminders in the year and then you have to pay everything due for that year. You don't get a reminder each month.

How long will you be staying in the us for? Should your DH not be getting single persons discount for some of it or are you moving soon?

Just realised, there's a "free" month thrown in there so read it carefully. Mine is split over 11 not 12 months because of this. I can't remember from when I moved in but I'm sure the payments were compressed then too so slightly higher per month.

Yes, there are installments for Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb but not September or March so I guess it works out to be about 224 a month.

My husband and daughter are there, I was hoping to be there by Sept 1st but they are way behind processing visas. We sold our house so I am staying with friends and relatives until it comes through.

If you're daughter is under 18 he can get a 25% single person discount. until you arrive. It's just a one page form.
