Edinburgh Tattoo question

Very excited to be going to the tattoo next week during our holiday but wondering if anyone local can give me a heads up about parking. It's been suggested we use a park n ride but I'm getting in a muddle as to which one would be our best option. We'll be driving in from Stirling. Any suggestions much appreciated. TIA

Hi beelover - we're going to pop this over to our Scotsnet topic for you.

Hermiston gate park and ride. Near heriot watt uni. Parking is horrendous in the centre of town.

From Stirling I'd go to ingliston, more straightforward to get to and you can get the tram if you fancy it.

Thanks everyone and thanks Becca, I didn't even know there was a Scotsnet topic on here.

Don't park in the Gyle shopping centre , they have CCTV cameras, if you park over 3( I think) hours you will receive a fine through the post.

Hermiston Gate P&R , or I think there is one at the Airport . ( not in the Airport ) take slip road as if you are going to the airport its on the right hand side of the approach road down to the airport. ( maybe Google)

Waverley station has a car park . Central but busy ( and expensive ) but if you couldn't get in you would be stuck, so I wouldn't take the chance during the festival. The same goes for the Omni Centre and John Lewis.

Enjoy the tattoo ! A warm coat, it's always windy up there, and a cushion ( in a plastic bag, if there's a chance of rain) the seats are not the comfiest and the cushions are expensive to hire if there is a few of you.

Have a great time!

Is taking the train an option? Much quicker than driving or park and ride, and only a shortish walk from station to castle.

Just heard an advert on Radio Forth , something about pre booking a place in the Omni car park. I don't know any details , may be worth googling !

Take lots of jumpers. I've never been so cold in my life as I was when I went to the tattoo. I nearly fell over when I stood up because I was numb with cold

report back on it here, fond memories of being there 5 years ago on the night of my wedding with all my family. Brilliant experience!

I would recommend checking bus times and park and ride times. I think hermiston's last bus is 2300 from princes street. So it may be worth parking around the zoo area and getting a 26 or 31 bus instead.

There is a car park at King's Stables Road I have no idea how busy it would be. The on street parking restrictions go off at 18.30 and after that you can park on the street in metered bays and residents' bays. Residents don't get priority after 18.30

I was running late getting to the Usher Hall last week and took the car to Stafford Street. There are plenty of on street spaces around the West End/New Town.

Thanks for all the advice. We ended up taking the train from Stirling and thank goodness we did. We were really delayed leaving the castle and would have missed the last bus and tram but the train gave us an extra 30 minutes to get to the station.
Tattoo was fantastic, thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of it. Took lots of layers and needed them all except (luckily) the waterproofs.
Sadly now back home after a glorious holiday.
