Which coast do you live by and are you pleased you moved?
Thinking of escaping the big smoke....

Norfolk coast, we are delighted with it. Small town, no choice of schools, but friendly and has a great sense of community

My Dad moved from South London to Seaford. It's not especially pretty but has a decent town centre and a nice beach. 15 minutes to Lewes and 30 to Brighton. About 90 minutes/ 2 hours back into London. He loves it.

North Yorkshire coast but would return to London in a heartbeat if finances allowed.

North Kent - Whitstable. Husband commutes daily to London which is expensive but the cost is more than compensated by the quality of life / schools / housing here. We love it, it’s the best thing we’ve ever done and I don’t miss a single thing about London.

Ooo thanks so much for the replies!
Am looking at Kent and Sussex at the moment...

Zgaze what are the schools in Whitstable like?
And what are the nice areas?

Schools - there are no bad primary schools, the thing to watch out for is some are through schools, i.e. from reception to year 6, whereas others are infant then reapply for juniors. Secondary you have to bear in mind that this is one of the few remaining grammar areas so you have all the problems that go along with that, children who pass the Kent Test (used to be the 11plus) travel to school in Canterbury, Faversham or Thanet - all easy bus or train rides. Children who don’t pass have a choice of schools locally, some which haven’t been great historically but are improving.

Nice areas - well it depends on budget of course...there’s a couple of areas I personally would avoid, I can pm you those if you like.

Sussex definitely. My gf and I say we would love to do this in a few years.
I grew up In Worthing and she has connections to Eastbourne.

@SmiledWithTheRisingSun
It's not so much that I don't like it. It's lovely, the scenery is great, pace of life is nice but there is absolutely no opportunity in terms of employment. I have lived here nearly 20 years and have worked throughout that time and I still don't earn half as much as I did when I left London.
The nearest motorway is an hour away, so it takes ages to get there so it feels isolated from the rest of the country.
I miss London, the culture and the availability of decent paid, varied and interesting work.

Mmm if you own your own home though Angular I would be willing to bet the size of the mortgage you'd need to live in London these days would make up for the wage difference. Yorkshire is VERY beautiful Smile
