Essex or Kent

We currently live in Teddington and are looking to move out of London to somewhere nice where the rent is cheaper. We're umming and aaahing over whether to move to Tunbridge Wells (or nearby) in Kent, or to Leigh on Sea (or nearby) in Essex. LoS rental is a bit cheaper and both places seem very nice. I'd love to hear from someone who has the experience and the knowledge to compare the two.
