Hello Mumsnetters, I'm looking for advice on relocating to Dorset, with a 5 and 3 yr old. We're looking around Wimborne, Corfe Mullen and Lytchett Matravers areas. Any advice/experience of these areas? Schools, swimming lessons, sports facilities, Cubs, shopping, schools??!! Thanks so much

Is there any particular reason you'd rather be somewhere smaller? What are you looking for? None of those are particularly rural really, just bad transport links and not much to do! Lytchett has great schools, better than the others. If you want all the things in the list have you considered Bournemouth/Poole?

Thanks Lampshady, we had looked at Lytchett because of good school reputation, which is our priority and apparently has a couple of spaces. I like Poole but wasn't sure if school situation was tricky as likely to be moving mid year etc. Not sure if there is much to do in Lytchett? We liked the village feel when we visited.

There isn't much to do in Lytchett but there's not that much to do really in any of the places you mentioned. Wimborne does have loads of pubs!

Wimborne has pretty good schools I think - in particular I think Colehill and Pamphill are really good. There is a comprehensive called Queen Elizabeth's (QE) that I think is fairly decent. There's also the option of the grammars in Poole (girls school v good, boys not so great I think) or possibly Bournemouth grammars if not too far. I know less about Corfe Mullen but the comp there (Corfe Hills) has a good reputation. Secondaries in Bournemouth and Poole aren't so great, mostly due to the grammars in the town creaming off the most academic.

Nice area of the world to live.
