Relocating up north

Hi everyone
Me and my husband and 2 kiddies (1 and 4) are looking to sell up in Milton Keynes and move up north to buy a cheaper property and start up a mobile tyre fitting business for my husband.
Our house budget isn't huge - 80-90k - we have been looking in a few areas but I'm quite conscious of buying in a 'bad' area
We have been looking at Nottingham, Newark, Sutton-in-Ashfield and further up to chesterfield, Mansfield way.
Does anyone live in / know any of the areas and can give any advice - where to avoid etc
Or maybe even anyone that has relocated from Milton Keynes area to further up north before ?
Thank you in advance Smile

Isn't Nottingham in the Midlands? Smile

I think you need to be more specific, most of Nottingham is most definitely not rural Grin

I don't think Nottingham would count as rural. We have towns and cities up north you know!

And you're probably not going to get a house for £90k in Nottingham. Well not judging on the bit we go to anyway.

Sorry - by north I am meaning north from where I am currently.
And I wasn't sure which heading to put it under

This rural living board is quite funny in it's attitude, but there isn't really anywhere else . a UK relocation topic could be handy.

How many bedrooms do you need? Cheadle is a little market town in the Staffordshire Moorlands, near to the Peak District. This house is 2 bed and in your budget www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-60261569.html

There are quite a few in your budget - www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-60576638.html
Maybe if you look more towards Derby/Staffordshire your money will go further?

How about something like this 3 bed house?

I would make sure you are in a good schools catchment, primary and secondary - it will save a lot of stress in the future if you find the schools unsuitable and have to move DCs from their friends.

And if you are in the country there will probably not be a choice of secondary school.

And might you want to run the business from home? Check there are no restrictions on that, some estates have them.

The secondary school next to the houses I linked is 'Outstanding' and 'well above national average
(about 5% of schools in England)' in this year's league tables.

I recently moved from Milton Keynes up north to a little village in Cheshire! It's much quieter but a lot less roundabouts and I quite enjoy living in the countryside Grinhouse prices in some of the villages can be super affordable too!
