Barnes to Sussex?

Hi all, my husband and I have just found out we are expecting our first baby.we currently live in a 2 bed garden flat in Barnes.we love it here but we know that we will have to move out to somewhere so we can buy. My husband works in Wandsworth so Sussex or Kent may be possible. I am a teacher so can be anywhere.could anyone advise on a market town area that is affordable to buy,safe and still with a bit of life! Haslemere looks nice..but I don't know..thanks!
