Sometimes with 100+ posts with some one line half hearted comment from the original post?

Like "he's just not into you"

What's the point? Is it to annoy the OP, or is there a posting counter somewhere I don't know about. Or do they genuinely not consider that there's an actual conversation going on that they haven't bothered reading about?

I genuinely don't get it. Is it kids?, Is it people looking to build their confidence to start posting or is it intentionally meant to be so invalidating as to annoy the hell out of people?

It doesn't annoy me anymore but it used to.

Maybe they haven't seen the thread up to that point and only consider the original post (a lot of people don't entertain the idea of the drip feed). Maybe they don't dress their answers up so feel they can say in one line what a lot of us would carefully say over 3 paragraphs! I don't really know, but the ones that bug me are the ones who dredge up a 5 year old post just to say LTB, then we think it's a new post so we follow on, only for someone to pop up amd say zombie thread!

Because most mums do not spend 24/7 in front of a screen following multiple threads. This is a site for mums. Personally, during normal times, I quickly skim through the forum for an hour or so during the evening. I don’t have time at work and over the weekend family time is a priority.

Sorry posted too soon.
The threads, or OPs I feel for are those who fail to get any replies.
When you post or join a thread you have to expect a full spectrum of replies.

I personally find it curious as to why some people decide to analyse why/how other people use MN and how they post.
Is that boredom or too much time on their hands?
Or is that some idea that they possess the knowledge and know-how of the only correct way to use MN?

I must admit I don't always read the full thread, I work full time so might have a quick scan through and reply if I rhink i can help in that moment

This is an odd thread.

Like most people I wouldn’t usually have time to read a 500+ post thread. But I would guess it had probably moved on a bit since the OP, so I wouldn’t jump in with a reply as if nobody else had answered.

I'm loving the 'see all posts' button, so, even if you don't have time to read through all the replies, at least you can keep up with what the OP has said. So any dripfeeds can be caught!

And yes, it annoys me too, OP. But sometimes I read an opening post, where the OP hasn't posted again, and I get so ragingly angry on OPs behalf or something suddenly springs to mind that I will just post without RTFT!

So you think only people on the thread already should be allowed to post? That's a bit cliquey.

Because we are allowed to comment on any thread we want.

yes of course you're ALLOWED to comment, it's just a bit weird when the OP posts "not sure what to do about my teenager who isn't eating?" in January, then there's several hundred posts spanning several months about dealing with the teenager's illness and hospital stays and diagnosis, whole side-story going with the unsupportive in-laws, several derails about trolling deleted, and after all that someone drops into the thread in August to say "haven't read the thread but you shouldn't put up with that OP, in my house you eat what I've cooked or you go hungry HTH."

You'd at least flick through the OP's posts if the thread had been going for ages, wouldn't you? No?

Pinkdaisies645 · 21/08/2020 12:09

No, I'm not saying people shouldn't post, I'm just wondering why they would join the conversation with a flippant one line comment like the one I said. I'm not talking about people who genuinely are trying to help. Just the ones that assume that something like " he's not that into you" hasn't already been covered by the dozens of posters before then". And call me bored, stupid, too much time on my hands whatever. I am interested though.

The final two paragraphs in your OP don't make any sense. You sound irrationally irate in one, (and like the MN thread police) and then say it doesn't bother you. It can't be both.
And, strange as it may seem, some people see a thread title, think it's an interesting enough topic, and flick to the "newest first" setting.
Do you get angry when people post in what you perceive to be the wrong section as well? Or do you put "oh not this again" because you happen to know that on 14th Dec 2018 there was a similar thread? Because that's what you seem like.

It's a mammy forum. It's not the online version of an academic conference. People can post what, and where, they want.Thsnk heavens.

I’ve read posts before that I’ve felt quite strongly about and written only one or two lines on. I suppose if it’s a subject that mumsnetters can relate to- they may want to put their two cents in even if it’s not a long response. That’s my reason anyway 👍

Blimey, you’ve a low opinion of Mumsnetters. You know mammy can actually have an academic background and is capable of speaking about more than nappies and prams, don’t you? There are many many women on Mumsnet who don’t have, can’t have or don’t want children, but like the site. There are even men posting on Mumsnet! Shocker, I know.

Why do you need a long response? Sometimes short and sweet gets the point across far more than an essay!

Sometimes the OP has disclosed a lot of information and it's invalidating to just give some flippant line that isn't helpful. That's my opinion anyway.
