My sister and I have tried to convince her to separate but although she ''thinks about it a lot' she has never taken any practical action such as speak to a solicitor. They are married and she is afraid she would lose her home and not have enough capital to buy something else.

She also feels she ''ought'' to look after him now his health is failing. He makes her life an utter misery. He's like a very demanding toddler, though that's not fair to toddlers, they can't help it.
He's jealous of anything she does which does not have him at the centre.

Not physical abuse (she says) but everything else - coercive control without a shadow of a doubt.

Its heartbreaking to think she will live with this until one of them dies (she is in her 70's now). Has anyone got any advice or do we have to watch this get worse (it has, it will). Just feel so powerless to help.

He has brainwashed her into feeling helpless and she was such a strong, capable woman.

Be there for her, don't let him cut you out of her life.
