Relationships

A Facebook question. Rather tenuous relationship link...

I'm an occasional FB user.

My fb friends are only people I know in real life who I am genuinely friends or connected to.

Someone has been suggested as a friend, I'm guessing because we have liked similar pages or something. They look quite interesting and like someone I'd be friends with. They're not local to me.

It's got me thinking about friend requests. Is sending them fairly normal/what you're supposed to do? Or is it weird?

Not really considering it. It got me thinking that's all!

Just wondering what other people do really! Feel a bit old when it comes to this social media lark!! Like I don't really get it... Confused

I'm suspicious when people I don't know befriend me, but I'm knocking on and cynical. And occasionally I've befriended people I don't know, to no bad effect. What's the worst that can happen? The other person will ignore or accept. Go for it.

Well that's it, I always ignore them too!

I had someone send a request 3 times and was on the verge of blocking when I realised it was just a parent from school I didn't know!

But then there are tales on here of wayward husbands friend requesting pretty young things. So some people accept...

If they turn out to be a tosser just unfriend. I'm sure most people aren't dodgy, just keep your twat radar on for those who are. It is a really useful medium/forum fb, despite its detractors

I have a few of those and just ignore them. They are often people who are in a similar group to me, so I'm sure it's not harmful, but I just prefer to keep my FB settings quite tight.

I think I've done at least one FB request in the past to someone who was someone I didn't know, but had the same first name as someone else with mutual friends, but they accepted and it was a while before I realised they were a completely different person!

I have a range of different security settings/groups and sometimes I'll accept a friend request from someone I've met once or twice, but keep it on a high setting or specific group until I know them a bit better.

I don't know how to set different groups. I only use it on my phone and can't see how to do it.

Everyone gets to see all my mindless drivel! Grin
