Is it just me or does anyone else really despise their partner/SH when they are drunk?
My god. He irritates the shit out of me.
Day to day we have no issues, he works really hard and so in his eyes at the weekend he can drink to his hearts content. There is nothing he specifically does that is really terrible but when he is drunk but just by the way he acts/behaves when pissed means I literally cannot stand the sight of him and I am looking at him in disgust.
Is this normal? Do other people love their partners sober but hate who they are when pissed??

I don't mind too much, he's just really noisy.

I don't mind too much as long as she doesn't grumble about being hung over the day after, and it is really good if she can hit the toilet when an excess of red wine comes back

Kids think it is funny when mummy is plastered

Mine is overly affectionate so not too bad, we tend to get trollied together though so not an issue... Grin

When we have a drink together I find him quite funny and we have a laugh but when I haven't he really irritates me!! Its like he is another person. To the point where I wouldn't EVER invite him to a works "do" for fear of him utterly embarrassing me. Is it just me?

I rarely drink and I don't like being around people who are excessively drunk, so I could never live with someone who drank a lot on a regular basis.

It's a compatibility issue really, isn't it?

Just like some people could live with a smoker, some wouldn't entertain it at all.

I don't mind DP drunk. I don't think he minds me drunk, either. I mean, it's never fun being the sober one, but I love him so I find it endearing and funny.

I'd be worried if I despised him, if I'm honest.

I'd say not standing the sight of him and looking with disgust is pretty extreme.

Sometimes I realise we're not on the same wavelength when he's been drinking and I've not.

No, I think despising your partner at any time is not good

I'm not keen on DH when he's been drinking. Certainly not interested in sex when he's had a drink cos its crap.

He has a few beers but doesn't get drunk anymore, he knows it turns him into a twat..

Lol at the pinkocelot's post. Yes my DP is irritating when drunk. Maybe yours drinks too much...one too many beers and becomes ultra annoying. If this is the case I think he needs to work towards cutting down x

You change too when you have had a few, and thats the issue. When you drink together you are still on the same wavelength as you are when you are both sober. But....when he is drunk and you are not, it isnt funny because you're not on the same wavelength.

I think H is an utter arse when he is drunk, but when I have had a drink then I dont have an issue, we can talk, laugh etc and be fine. When I was PG with DC6 I still went to the pub for the first couple of months as I had worked there and it was where our friends met up. It was dire. I realised that all of our friends were boring, unfunny and dull dull dull so I stopped going. After I had her I went back for someones birthday party, I could have a drink and lo....they were funny again!

In short, YANBU to think he is an ass when he is drunk as long as you accept that you are an ass when you have had a drink too. (Yes I know this isnt AIBU!)

I look at mine in disgust when he's drunk and I think it's nearly end of our relationship.
He drinks at inappropriate times and it's ruining our relationship.

I'm the crap one in this situation.

My partner hates it when I'm drunk. I'm a rubbish drunk. I'm the kind of person who doesn't care what people think sober, but can be tactful, all goes out the window when I drink and I'm a dick. So now I only get tipsy/merry (30 weeks pregnant at the mo though, so nothing right now!)

He's a silly but happy drunk - only negative is he's a puker! lol. So he gets to be drunk, He's a nice guy both ways.

I guess there is no point being drunk if it makes you a crap person.

Strange though... because I met him whilst drunk.. haha :)

It's normal to not enjoy a specific person being drunk, but despise is pretty strong... I'd save that for violent/abusive drunk people or people who are actually drunks! xx

I don't usually drink but I don't mind him if I'm drunk but if I'm sober 3 years + he gets on my nerves a bit.

If he comes in past 1am (usually 6ish) then I do to mind so much because I get the bed to myself then he will come in and go straight to bed never sick or anything.
If he comes home whilst I'm up he sits in the sofa telling me stories that make little sense before falling asleep despite me saying "go to bed before you fall asleep, go to bed, come on let's oh to bed"
Once he has fallen asleep there's no moving him so I generally just throw a blanket over him and leave him Wink
