What Happens at Sex Therapy?

Wondering if anyone can help, have been referred for sex therapy by my GP, basically following a lot of recent gynae investigations I don't want to let DH near me, on any level.

Not due to pain, definitely psychological as no issues after a lot of wine. I rarely drink and its not an ideal solution!

I just want to know what the sessions will entail? Therapist is top of her game, and qualified gynae also so that should help.

they chat, they ask you stuff, its just like normal therapy

Maybe give you things to practice when you're at home (sensate therapy) just depends on how much talking you need to get to that point.

I'm dreading it, I've never had any kind of therapy. I can't see it working, I'm not big on chatting about feelings.

If she's as good as you say she is, I think she'll know just how to handle the sessions, be totally honest, she'll know what to ask to get the info needed, will you be going on your own or together? Try to go with an open mind, was this your idea or partners?

GP suggested referral after I was unable to consent to a VE, she asked about our sex life and I admitted to it being non existent.

DH is very understanding, we have three young children so it wasn't too great to start but there are ripples of frustration, affecting both of us.

If you don't like the one your GP refers you too, I would try looking around for others, it is worth the effort! We had non-existent miserable sex life for years, I just buried my head & pretended we were alright without it, but it's funny how it can make every tiny thing in your relationship turn into a big problem, I saw one my GP referred us too & she was a little cold in my books but some people prefer that, you can look on the counselling directory & find local counsellors who often do a half hour session for free to see if you click.
It sounds horrible & embarrassing but in order to 'get better' it's temporary, if the end result is a more fulfilling, satisfying & closer relationship it's got to be worth a go.
In the end although the counsellor didn't 'fix me' she gave me ideas & a better understanding of what I had to do personally to help myself & things are so much better, without it I probably would have just carried on denying there was a problem.

Thanks for you honesty breaking I know her from a gynae point of view so not sure if that will be help or hindrance. I hope not to wait too long as I offered to see her privately but apparently her waiting lists are the same length. I don't have to pay, I think this is in part due to it being a massive mal practice that has caused my problems.
