Is it every girl for herself? How do you play it?

Oh there is an age gap between me and my best friend so if we ever wanted the same bloke we had an agreement that if he was under a certain age he was mine, if he was over he would be hers.

This rule usually worked in my favour but ironically we're now both in long term relationships, me with somebody much older than her and her with somebody my age!

I would discuss it with her. Generally I'd rate a friendship as much more important than a man. Luckily most of my mates have weird taste in men.

Rock, paper, scissors? Best of three though to make it fair.

A game of Russian roulette springs to mind - but probably better to (metaphorically) shoot him and look for a pair of hunky twins.

Why not toss for it? Whoever loses can take consolation in knowing he'll most probably turn out to be a tosser so they've won in the long term even though they they've lost in the short term.

If your friend is your 'best' friend, it's not worth falling out over a guy as they're 2 a penny and best friends don't grow on trees. If you're both capable of being gracious losers, let him choose.

Won't your solution involve setting up visiting rights to the other half on occasion buzz? [hhmm]

Well, it's up to him which of you he wants to date. And if neither of you has dated him at all yet then he can't be percieved even by the most rabid monogamist as belonging to either of you. And he may not want to date either of you anyway. He might be gay. He might already have a partner.
But it would be silly to fall out about it.

Lay him down on the ground over a white line. One of you takes his arms, the other takes his legs. Tug of war. To the victor, the spoils.
