Well, not no friends, just no other mummy friends! We moved to the UK just over a year ago and while I have some fantastic "work friends" (I commute for an hour though so not much chance of out-of-hours socialising) I haven't managed to make any local friends (with or without kids). Working full-time has really taken its toll! I used to catch up with friends at least every week when I lived in Oz (and worked part-time). I have been ok with this (recognising that working during the week is bound to make it difficult) until this week now that I'm on holidays, and I've felt it quite keenly. The times that I have been able to make it to the school gate I have felt very excluded (I didn't start work for 3 months after we arrived and still didn't manage to thaw the reception) even though I have made sure I didn't shrink away from talking to other Mum's. My work finishes in about 3 months time (fixed term contract) and I am dreading this - I have loved working there and am not looking forward to the isolation of being at home again with no-one to talk to.
Thanks for listening. I don't expect there to be any magic fixes to this just needed to offload, but hey, if you do have any magic fixes... :o
Cheers!
