Who knew?
I very rarely put the radio on in the evenings, but me and the daughter were cooking tonight and sipping wine in the kitchen, so I put it on in the background.
First up, Tony Blackburn, who I swear sounds exactly the same as he did when I was a kid. His voice hasn't aged at all. Best of all, he's always liked a bit of Soul, Motown, Philly etc. (which I do too) so the playlist was perfect. Tracks you rarely hear played on the radio these days and me and the daughter were dancing around the kitchen!
And then ... WTF but it's Gary Davies and he's playing a load of blinding 80s tracks (and to be honest I wasn't a fan of 80s music)
Both of them have that knack of making everything they play sound great because of how they introduce it. There's no self-indulgent, shouty, talking about themselves nonsense as so many current day radio presenters indulge in, where the music is merely an interlude in their verbal diatribe that allows them to draw breath or take a toilet break. It's all about the music with these two - proper old school DJs.
It was a joy to listen to. Two presenters from yesteryear whose focus is the music. It was like radio used to sound, and it sounded great.
Radio 2 you've got yourself a new Friday night fan!
