Really annoying... (heard on R4)

a) David Archer planning not to bother going to the police over the hay.

Surely it would be easy enough to request the dealer name his source - he has to have a paper trail of how he heard about the hay and what who was paid for it. So if the hay had identical grasses in it as that of their farm, and the dealer can name who it was bought from, eventually they would get to the thieves.

b) Despite every other show on R4 making serious attempts to avoid spoiling the plot by revealing too much, continuity 99.99% of the time tells us what's going to happen in the following episode of the Archers.

c) How so many interviewees start an explanation with "So..." Where there's no need. They could say "The survey / experiment / method / process we use..." but insert this nonsense noise word "So" (mainly science programmes/ interviewees).

a) Yes, we totally agree. But after intense discussion between me and DH last night, DH thinks that this is setting up for David's murder.

DH thinks that David will be accidentally killed in a fight with the hay thieves, and that Pip will take over Brookfields.

I think that I've had enough of moany Jamie being bereaved, and I can't take it if Pip, Josh and Ben are also bereaved, so I'm hoping that he's wrong so we don't have to listen to them moaning.

No David blows the scum sucking hay stealing MFs away, just like he did to the cuddly badger. Then he has to live in his mother in laws loft. :)

Meanwhile Harry uses a date rape drug on Peggy... no that is too horrible to imagine.

Yeeeuuuuuugggggghhhhh, wash your brain out, please jodevizes.

How could you mention 'rape' and 'Peggy' in same sentence.

The action is a horrible thought for any kind of plot, but then to include a pensioner!!

Fortunately they know there are some boundaries they must not cross ! :)

They would lose the audience they have built up over past 60 years - on 1st January, apparently, so is there some special broadcast of 30 minutes to mark it, (at say 10:30 and 15:30 slotted in where they usually have random content) ?

Here's another moan (though have to admit I missed start of today's show) - does BH (Broadcasting House) get filled up with rubbish when they could spend more time with the three guest reviewers talking about the papers ?

I suppose they have 3 'for balance' rather than 2 who might be diametrically opposed on some issue and they might worry about the two going into an argument, or both going into a sulk if told to stop arguing... but then if they are going to have 3, why not spend a bit longer than 30 minutes (if they even get that amount of time).

I gave up listening several months ago, and happened upon it more by chance (I was up earlier than usual, having been in the habit of sleeping through the programme once I was so fed up with their silliness in the first portion of the show.

Instead I try to listen to the lunch-time show on BBC R Wales where they have a similar "what's of interest" show, mostly based on the happenings in the UK over the past week. Though I must say they have moved "Something Else" in the schedule by 30 minutes, and it sometimes gets replaced (bad!) by Sport.

And why have I never heard of any of the guests on Desert Island Discs?

I love the fact that DID and Last Word often include amazing but non-sleb people. There are far too many slebs elsewhere in medialand.

Rally annoying d): Neil Nunes voice.

Some love Neil's voice, though I think it is a bit of a 'Marmite' question!

I think, wrt DID, that about 5% to 10% are names I know, the rest are mostly interesting, but sometimes completely unknown to me.

seeker - surely you had heard of some of the list from this year - see this Wiki page

Here are names I took from the 2010 list that I have heard of, even if I could not tell you main occupation for each person. Lots more I don't know. My list :-

Gok Wan
Jim Al-Khalili
Duncan Bannatyne
Emma Thompson
Fay Weldon
Frank Skinner
Tim Robbins
Jimmy Mulville
Kathy Burke
Sir Tom Jones
Johnny Vegas
Ian McMillan
Nick Clegg

Surely you know at least a few of those, seeker ?

There's also a series of list back to 1942

Sorry - slight exaggeration! II've heard of some of them.

I think that Neil Nunes is actually Rory Bremner.

LOL re NN being a character by RB

Yes, thought so, seeker. Must admit I mistook Tim Robbins for Tom Robinson, but also found on taking a second look at the list that I could identify a few more (Frank Warren, Clive Woodward, June Spencer, Rob Brydon, Alice Cooper, Michael Mansfield).

I also knew of Dame Stephanie 'Steve' Shirley, founder of FI Group, because of her work in the IT industry, though did not know of her achievements and awards before checking the Wikipedia link. Laughed when I saw mention (on her Wiki page) of a degree presentation at the Globe in Brighton as I suspect that was the Dome in Brighton. AFAIK the Globe is either a pub in the back streets of Brighton, or the renovated historic London theatre.

I really enjoyed Nick Park today on DID.

I have to admit that R4 is on constantly in my kitchen, and I regret that I can't get the radio on my commuter train (because of the overhead power lines apparently)as when I used to drive to work I could listen to the today prog.

Regarding the Today prog - I give it a miss nearly every day, even with Evan Davis (still miss Ed Stourton).
