God I am prostrate with boredom with the intros and trails for this Up-itself series. Good interesting material but enough of the drum rolling already! It just sounds so swaggering and off putting

I'm glad someone else dislikes the theme tune! I love the series but that theme tune. Though I hate it because it sounds unfinished, like doodling. (I've said that to DH before and he just looked at me as if I was mad. Maybe I am ...)

But the trails are so looooooooong and the tune is so grim and I assume it's trying to muster up some sense of ancient culture thrumming through history even up to the steps of the British Museum but it's somehow too much and too grim and too Arse ish.

It seems to grand for R4. Just get ON with it and stop blowing your ancient Babylonian Arse Trumpet about it you bloody posh bloke!

(forgive me that uptoapointlordcopper {blush]

I love the theme tune but haven't been able to listen to the program for more than 10 seconds without nodding off.

I hate it too. If I can force myself not to change the station before he starts talking about the item I enjoy it but mostly I'm running for the off button.

It's a marketing disaster in my 'umble.

EXACTLY what I was thinking the other day.
SO ponderous and pretentious and faux-ancient! With that crass echo FX.

I kove the programme bus realize I can't actually remember what the theme tune sounds like!

Thought it was just me and DH who hated the theme tune - it's so worthy and sounds like something off one of those Programmes for Schools that we were dragged into the school dining room to watch in the seventies.

Report
Katisha · 23/10/2010 08:40

Yes exactly - I've always thought it sounded like a schools programme from the 70s!

I also came on this thread to make the schools' programme comment -- but that's kind of why I like it. It makes me think I should be sitting cross-legged on a carpet sample in front of my junior school's creaking TV trolley. I find its unabashed earnest quite endearing.

"you have to run and switch it off before you fall asleep."

Agreed. I have hated most, the fact they put it on not once, nor twice, but thrice each day.

I hoped to be free of that series but Friday instead of a 9pm Play, there it was again!!

I thought the 'four note sound logo' was a pretty standard mechanic these days. Started with the Channel 4 ident... remember that? Then there's the four note Intel hook. The Wii wobble. Nokia fanfare. And HOTWIOHO just drags it out with a flute... four notes with a twiddle at the end.

I am trying to remember it, as it got on my tits for weeks- particularly as the dds liked to sing along with it

rrrrrr

now all I'm coming up with is the Our Tune theme
