Does anyone still use a pushchair for their <whispers> 3.5 year old?

In my defence she is teeny and I walk for at least 90 minutes on rocky ground mainly uphill when I walk the dog. We also go out on her scooter and bike but on smoother flatter ground but this is no good for the dog and where we walk the dog is impossible for scooting (forest).

She can manage the first 50 minutes or so of the walk but gets very tired near the final stretch. I have to walk the dog and want to get it done fairly quickly in this weather so we can go about our normal activities which are more fun. Also I hav work and school runs etc so limited on time! Can't be dawdling forever.

Is it totally unreasonable to do this - have looked at previous threads which suggest its tantamount to child abuse Shock.

fine i'd say. every child is different, some could manage without but some cant. do it if she's happy and itmakes life a bit easier.

We finally got rid of our pushchair last summer when DS2 was about 3.9 and I didn't walk anywhere near as much as you do. He only went in it for the school run which was 20 minutes each way.

But he is now 4.3 and still isn't keen on walking that much and we have to do a lot of bribery encouragement Wink

If I did as much walking as you, I would probably still use it!

I used to. We walk a lot. It was quicker to use the buggy for the speedy bit, ie getting DD1 to school, then letting DD2 walk back at our own pace.
I got the full tutty catsbum once in Morrisons because DD2 was screaming in her buggy. She was in the buggy because she'd tried to run away and hide and it was very busy.

FGS no .. Your child is not lazy she has little legs and they get tired. Of course there are tons of other MNetters kids that walk /run marathons at that age . My dd is 4 yes 4 whole years and when we do long stretches I take it as a bag hanger / shopping carrier and then when she gets tired she goes in it. LAst time she used it was at a fun park and it was pretty convenient as I was shattered as well and had no energy to give her a piggy back ! Her 6 yr old sister when she was ill and I had to go to the doctor sat in it as well ( OMG what a sin !!!!). My kids have no option but to walk where we live so to be quite honest they do walk shed loads . So use it until you need to .

I made the mistake of walking to collect DD from nursery the other day - a 30 minute walk for an adult, and ended up having to carry her some of the way home as after a day at nursery she was zonked. She is 3yrs 4 months and I am 38 wks preggers so carrying her was an ordeal to say the least! Let's just say next time I walk I SHALL be taking a buggy so she can go in it if exhausted and if any busybody tuts disapprovingly they will have my hormones to deal with!
