Phil & teds verve...tyre wear after 3 weeks and other issues...anyone had the same?

hi this is my first posting on mumsnet so here goes! I bought the new p&t's verve 3 months ago when my ds2 arrived, loved it until both tyres wore bald and blew after 3 weeks! We put it down to over inflation, bought new tyres and tubes (took 10 days to arrive from nz, another story!), fitted them but a day later the wheel off and the brake failed on the same side! We returned the verve for repair which came back a week later (peppermint Kingston loaned us a pram and dealt with p&t's, they have been excellent), and 2 days later the brake went again while on the bus home...v dangerous, so I demanded a whole new replacement, which to be fair they gave me, so feeling happy :). But 3 weeks later with new verve and the 2 tyres have worn bald again, ready to pop at any minute! The tyre pressure is exactly as p&t's recommend....what is going on? I can't afford new tyres and tubes every month, never mind the hassle of getting hold of them and fitting them! I suspect this is also an issue on the vibe...any similar experiences out there and advice?

i would take it back again and keep taking it back, until it was resolved, i have a verve and fingers crossed it has been alright, although it don't get heavy use as i have other pushchairs.

Thanks, Peppermint Kingston just told me P&Ts want the verve back again to examine, thankfully peppermint are loaning me a buggy while it's gone! Hopefully 3rd time lucky!

i think i need to use mine a bit more just incase, although i did check the tyres and they seem fine, just out of interest does yours kind of creack/makes a noise a little [frame/suspension] when you use it

Had a similar problem with both wheels. They both wore down to their threads and punctured within weeks. The shop replaced both wheels. They had never seen tyres worn so bare. Have had no issues with new tyres so far. I think there must be a fault with some verve's as I got the impression it was not the only one the shop has had to replace.

mine is creaking but wheels are fine [at the moment] i thought it may be because plastic meets metal, as i have sprayed the suspension and its still creaking, i can not send it back just because its creaking, although i may email phil and teds and ask why

i have contacted p&t about the creaking awaiting reply from out and about tomorrow hopefully, dp has had a look and seems to think it is coming from the second seat mounting or around that area anyway.

My left wheel also whirrs as if it's rubbing on mudguard and had to get both blown up at halfords after two weeks as totally flat. BUT my big problem is the toddler seat on top crushes into three week old daughter on reclined seat. The cocoon I splashed out on is wasted as I can't use it already because seat crushes bottom few inches and legs will be squashed even though she s only ten pounds! Have tried her today in just a snow suit but seat still presses down on fastening buckle. I am really peed off after spending best part of a grand on whole thing plus accessories. My son is a big boy but he s only two and half yrs old and buggy meant for up to age six!! Anyone come across this?

is your frame creaking/ making a noise, are both wheels or one doing this after a while of pushing /...\ is there alot of side ways movement more on one side than the other? when pushing the pushchair and you let go of the handle can you see it moving back ie the frame is twisting as you are pushing and then when you let go of the handle you see the handle move back to where it should be. does it apear to get heavier to push the further you go.

My experience of original Phil and teds was very poor and thin (cheapest) tyre quality supplied. Numerous other quality of build issues (plastic coated mesh areas of seats wearing through to string in only weeks of use), faulty wheel which splayed and never fitted correctly. Faulty brakes, hub cap from swivel mechanism falling off. Clips from harness were not stitched in olace, toddler under 3y managed to unthread several and discard them (thank goodness she didn't put them in her mouth and choke!). Toddler was able to stop pram abruptly by pushing feet through footwell (only fabric) onto front wheel.
Since then I've had a swift (now supplied by Phil and teds company I believe). This time the secondary safety lock spring dislodged and so it didn't work. Could not get any response from customer service. Returned it to boots for full refund eventually. Swift rear wheels had also begun to splay.
Now I stick to babyjogger for a three wheeler as the quality is excellent and I feel baby jogger offer real value for money.

My Verve has been returned for a refund after almost six months. As P.R.A.M.S. describes, the frame was squeaking and creaking and the further you walked the worse it got - and it was bad! But to be honest on short runs I just thought it was squeaky. It was only when I did longer runs that the noise got much much louder. The frame moved from side to side. The wheels were splayed but the lean on the right hand side was bad. As you describe ceecee mine also had a whooshing noise from the wheels as if their were leaves or the mudguards was catching. I am led to believe that the issues I had are not unusual. I know of five similar Verves. So look out for the signs.
