Britax Carry-cot

Not sure if this is the right place to post but here goes!

I have bought the Britax carry-cot and had planned on using it as a moses basket during the day when me and baby are downstairs. However, Britax have advised that it cannot be used for this as its not ventilated, so I asked them what the max time is baby can sleep in it, which they said there is no max time. oh and you cant buy a different mattress for it either. Arrghhhh.

Given that babies only sleep for a couple of hours at a time, has anyone else used this/similar carrycot as a moses basket? Is its just health and safety gone mad????

We've bought a Britax carry cot and are planning to use for sleeping in it (including over night) we have brought a vented matress from KiddyCare that fits it and was recommended by the very knowledgeable staff.

When we mentioned sleeping in it, straight away we were told we would need a different matress and they produced one straight away.

Bizarre!

DS slept in it during daytime until 2 weeks old (after which he would only sleep in my arms). Did not even change the mattress (never occurred to me). I guess what Britax mean is that if LO turned so that it's face was against the carrycot side, it could be a bit dangerous, as it is not breathable like a moses basket. Hmmm. I really do not understand ventilated mattresses (the ones with just a few large holes in, as there is still a non-breathable bottom on the carrycot. Anyways, babies generally take several months before they can flip to sides or on their belly (anyway my DS would have let me known loudly about such abhorrent occurrance Grin, and they are usually in a cot by that time.

Thank you, i think i will stick to my original plan then. Good to hear you can get a different mattress despite what Britax have told me!

I did not know that there are different mattresses to the carrycot, but if you can't find one, you can just cut a moses basket one to size (should you want a different mattress, that is).
