Hello,

PIL have been unable to master the bugaboo and have got SIL's old pushchair out of the attic.

it's A M A Z I N G!!!

i can pick it up with one hand

it folds flat

it has a HUGE tray underneath

It faces forwards or backwards

the handle is adjustable

it's so straightforward even FIL Wink can fold / unfold in the blink of an eye

it probably cost tuppence h'apenny

I guess it must date from the early 90's, and is from Mothercare, i've tries to find a picture to show you but have failed

why aren't pushchairs like this anymore, it's the answer to pretty much all the pushchair dilemmas we face?

and is anyone else using ye olde fashioned pushchair?

Is it one of those old silver cross types?

I've had a few of those. Thing was you always find something that's crap about them...they don't go up kerbs, with an actual child in them, OR there is no suspension, OR the adjusting clippy thing on the side that turns it from pram to upright seat keeps loosening so your child is swinging upside down every so often Grin

I will sit here and wait for you to find something wrong with it now., Wink Have you road tested it?

You can't fit anything much in buggy trays these days. Shopping's a PITA with most of them. But on the other hand, you've usually spent several hundred fucking quid on the bastard so you have no money to buy anything anyway.

Not using one but do see a few about still going strong.
Is it a like this?

FlyMetoDunoon, yes that's the bugger!

so far so good, no problems going up or down curbs.

no i probably wouldn't use it for off roading, but then i wouldn't use a bee for offroading either.

perfectly comfy and smooth on pavements.

no swinging freely because of loose clips.

no the tray isnt very deep but you can stick your shopping in a bag and the bag on the tray

seriously though why aren't pushchairs like this made anymore? you could add suspension / a different shaped bag underneath, you could have swappable covers for those who like these things. i don't get it, why have prams become so complicated, is just so the manufacturer can charge ££££

you know what, i'm going to design one, based on this old design and take it on dragons den and be rich beyone my wildest dreams. up yours mr bugaboo and phil and ted you old soaks, i'm going to win this pram war!!!

LOL Grin

I think it's maybe because they are a bit ugly?

I was given one of those for dd1. I hated it! the handle was very low and it gave me backache. But then I'm tall (6ft).

I've got a Maclaren Super Dreamer that's almost identical...Bought it brand new from a charity shop a few months back...Also very light with a big tray that fits plenty of shopping in...Only thing missing for me is a bumper bar...DD loves hanging off them ie the Frog...As the seats are quite high up i think BB make the seat more comfortable...DD saw it in the shed this morning and wanted a ride in it, may oblige later when we go to Tesco...DD has caught my buggy addiction by the age of 15 months!!!Also have a Silvercross Wayfarer...Seats the same but i nickname them tanks as they're very heavy and sturdy...I bought an all black one, threw the original one away, DD hates it so i wasted a lot of money buying it off eBay.

Mine has a bumper bar, and an adjustable height handle, i'm 5'9 and it can go higher than i've got it.

Ugly? seriously? It's no more ugly than some of the frankly ridiculous contraptions one sees around, one of my friends has got some behamoth that cost about £43,000 and looks like a dalek, it's shiny chrome too for fucksake, can't go over rough ground, she can barely manouver it around shops, needs help lifting it into her car, and had to buy an estate to accommodate it, and bits keep falling off it, stupid thing.

No you can't talk me out of it, it is definitely superior to todays buggies .

yy some of the recent ones are indeed hideous.

But it does look like one of those hospital trolleys with cups of tea on. A bit.

and actually, a lot of the modern ones are no better in terms of usefulness either.

I had a particularly hated cosatto swift lite that was neither swift nor lite.

It had the most stupid weight distribution I've ever know, which meant you couldn't tilt it. So you couldn't go up a kerb, you couldn't go down a kerb. You could barely push it. I'm not even sure it was designed as a buggy.
Ds1 fell out of it one day and it went back to the charity shop from whence it came.

Bastard buggy that one.

Most buggies were like that in the eighties and early nineties when my chilren were small. I even had an umbrella fold buggy that faced both ways.
I childmind now and find modern buggies a pain, all forward facing unless you pay a fortune.

I have an old style britax one like that in the loft from dd1 who'll be 20 this month. It cost me £163, I remember as I really had to save for it as I wanted the carrycot. Loved it, was fab to push!

bigcar, keep it, your furture grandchildren will travel in (slightly unfashionable) style.

Dh parents are a bit odd, they have kept EVERYTHING from their two sons (mid 70s), then their much later daughter. so far i have utilised am old baby monitor, Tomy i think, no i can't choose a MP3 to play when DS cries but it does the job, i can hear him if he cries, an old playpen, a lovely wooden one, the cot that DH's great grandfather made, it's sweet and i love the history, lovely thick cotton cot sheets, a push along walker thing, much more sturdy than new ones i have seen, a rocking horse, oh lots of things.

I had the Silver Cross one in a different colour for ds 2 and he's 19 now. I saved and saved for that buggy!!

I had a different make for ds1 (now 21), but it was a similar style.

I was flummoxed when buggy hunting when I had dd (she's 4), as they didn't seem as good as the boys buggies.
