DH interested in a house in Wollaton village Nottingham (May Avenue)? House is friend of a friend and not on rightmove so we have some snaps by email..seems quite good value compared with London prices - he is going up to recce it as we are thinking of moving to make his work commute a bit easier (he travels lots). Is this a suburb? Or a village? I would love to be in a nice community with a ggood little vvillagey school.. when I phoned Fernwood though they said I couldn't come and look round unless we had already applied which put me off a bit!! Also someone mentioned West Bridgford as a much better area for families, but obviously less good for M1..

DH works in Nottingham. Wollaton is a suburb of Nottingham not a village as such.
If you look online map you will see what I mean.

West Bridgford is a nice suburb that is merges into Nottingham but it can be v congested. Wollaton is a suburb too but the village is a conservation area and still feels villagey - parts are studenty as the uni is only just across the park. I don't know May Avenue though.

Fernwood is the very good primary, if you can get in.

My friend works at Fernwood Infants - very popular school and she is a fab teacher. Wollaton is a very spread out suburb, some good parts some shitty parts... but has a massive park and big stately home at its centre. Which is nice.

It is quite a sought after location I suppose. Not as sought after as West Bridgford though - tis full of yummy mummys there!! Great schools too.

If you want villagey, you'd be better off looking at some of the more rural areas, heading out to south Notts.
