owning a holiday let - yay or nay?

Dp has a flat which he lets out , we are looking to sell and it has been suggested we buy a holiday let somewhere we would use it and could let that. We are looking at stratford area or near bath as we visit both regularly and hotel costs add up!

BUT coming from the lake district I am aware how much holiday lets affect the locals and don't want to be part of the driving up house prices out of reach of local people.

SO does anyone have any suggestions?

Why not use B&B? Much cheaper than hotels.

We live in a village on the edge of the Cotswolds and some parts of the village are like a ghost town as loads of the houses are just second homes and at the same time our local school only has 25 pupils because no-one local can move in because the houses are really expensive or owned by someone but not lived in

For all the reasons you state I couldn't do this in a rural area.

Maybe a bit different in Bath as it's an (expensive) city in it's own right.

Perfectly Ok in a city or big town, but please not in small country villages as it's killing them.

That's my thing really ! I am from Cumbria which hit with the same issue so that's what puts me off.

Re b&bs last time we stayed in one it worked out £40 a night dearer than stating in avthistle hotel and wasn't as nice
