Room planning/colour schemes software - does it exist?

Does anyone know of software (cheap!) or a website where you can plan room layouts and decorating ideas in order to get a better idea of how different colours/effects might look?

We have just bought a brand new house and have to choose everything from kitchen units to flooring to tiles to etc etc. Not moaning cos it's really exciting but terrified of making expensive mistakes that we'll have to live with for years.

Alternatively, any websites you know of with loads of sample room layouts, colour schemes etc to help us see how certain combinations look? Got lots of ideas but some are hard to envisage in reality..

Thanks for any suggestions!

try mydeco.com/design/ - they have a free room planner thing

most kitchen retailers (e.g. magnet, ikea etc) have free room planners on their websites (though obv only featuring their products!)

Brilliant, thanks ever so much - I don't mind whose products they feature, it's just to get an idea of what different colours/textures look like combined.

Off I go for a play!

i was about to suggest that one!
it's really good fun and you can put all sorts of furniture in it (ignore it if it says that piece is no longer available, it'll still put it on your plan!)
