Anyone know about lead paint?

We are doing up house that is 250 yo. It has some original paint work as well as stuff since then. Majority of paint since then that is left is from 1970s on (we assume) and that is peeling but it is only really skirting etc.
I was wondering whether the original paint work would have had lead in , I can only really find info that says pre 1960s but this is very pre 1960s and not sure what they used.

I am concerned as I am the one sanding etc and would be the one breathing it.

TIA

I'd say almost certainly has lead in it,and would be 'safer' to assume that it has iyswim.

Not sure what the advice is re stripping & sanding I'm afraid
