Would you rather have a huge lounge or a huge kitchen? Help me decide

Cannot make my ming whether to knock the kitchen into the living room. At the moment the kitchen is 20foot long by about 15foot wide. The living room is 32foot long by 14 foot wide.

If I knock through kitchen would be 30foot by 15, living room would be 22 by 14. I would have double doors from new living room into kitchen / diner.

The current dining room is being used as a playroom.

Because I am used to such a huge lounge I do not know if i will be a little enclosed.

What would you do? There is me, dh and three dc, 7,5 and 3.

At the moment it is a little cramped all eating round the kitchen table.

Definitely large kitchen/dining area. We've just knocked through between our tiny kitchen and back room so we've got a lovely big (ish) kitchen/dining room space. We live in it and rarely use our lounge (front room). It's fab and I'm really glad we did it.

Dp and I sit in the lounge in the evening to watch telly and it's nice and cosy - doesn't need to be huge.

24 x 14 would be a much better proportioned room for a living room than 32 x 14, so I would knock through and give yourself room to eat.

oh ladies you are so right. I am going to do it. Should i put double doors across for access into living room or leave it open with an arch or something.

Would that be too open. I suppose doors would give the option of open or closed, cosy or open plan.

Am i doing anybody's head in yet??? I have dh

Interesting thread. I have a similar decison to make in the next twelve hours before the plumber comes.

I think I'm going to keep the big kitchen rather than turning it into the sitting room. It's lovely to have a big kitchen. Also people love sitting round in the kitchen chatting don't they? And if you have room to put a chaise or sofa for hanging out, all the better.

i would bring some nice wine, Malory.

we could put on some music and sip wine whilst cooking and simulateneously letting the wee ones be destructive play somewhere.

we just had our dining room wall knocked down, so much bigger kitchen. Means DD can run around while I cook etc.

The living room is DP's cave.
