Talk to me about drive ways

I know this is the most boring topic ever!
Any opinions on driveways eg resin bound, tarmac etc? Currently want to replace our pebbles because we constantly have cat poo.

Anything specific I should consider?

Interested as ours needs doing. It’s currently very old tarmac that lifts and has bits chipping off and, in parts, it has dropped and sunk. No idea how long it’s been down as it was like this when we moved in a couple of years ago.

Just don’t go for that imprinted concrete stuff. It fades -badly-and, as our neighbours have discovered, it cracks.

Neighbour the other side has just had block paving and it looks lovely, I know older drives can end up with weeds between the blocks. I suppose nothing is maintenance free.

@Didntgetmydiamondring it’s such a boring thing to spend money on I just can’t get enthusiastic about it. It would look better though.

Recently changed our drive from badly laid gravel to tarmac. It was the most cost effective option for us. Block pavers were twice as expensive and would require more maintenance, especially as we have lots of trees around.

Resin looks good but I understand it’s roughly double the cost of tarmac, so we didn’t bother getting a quote.

What are your neighbours’ drives?

@TheMagicDeckchair can I ask how big your drive is and what it cost ? Its something we are looking at doing.

@Pickpick101 the total area was roughly 80sqm and cost £4250. It included all the landscaping and preparation of the surface, and removal of gravel etc.

That’s in the north though so I think a fairly good price.

I think I could get excited about a driveway upgrade. I’ve seen some gorgeous granite setts driveways with beautiful planting that really enhance the curb appeal of a property.
