Bathroom window and privacy

Just wondering what you use for your bathroom window. We have privacy glass and a long shower curtain which we pull across the window whenever we shower. The shower curtain regularly has mildew growing on it. Apart from getting a shorter shower curtain, are there any other ideas?

have you got a powerful extractor fan?

Bathroom blinds at the window, leave the window open a bit or extractor fan.

I have a blind. My old neighbours at the back had nothing. They thought their privacy glass was enough but, trust me, it was not. Mercifully my new rear end neighbours have installed a curtain that means I don't have to see them showering and wiping their spotty arses.
Privacy glass and a decent blind/curtain will see you right.

We have two machine washable shower curtains. The curtain 'in use' gets washed once a fortnight. Seems to help keep mildew at bay (and we live in a very old, prone-to-damp house that only had mains water added to it in the latter half of the 20th century..)

We don’t have an extraction fan and there isn’t scope to install one. Would prefer an option that doesn’t require using energy.

All bathrooms should have extractor fans. You can put one in the ceiling and vent out via the loft. They use minimal power as they don’t heat anything. This is why you have mildew. It’s false economy not to have extraction.

My extraction fan is an old- fashioned model called a “window”. I open it slightly when the bathroom is in use. We have no problems with mildew whatsoever. We have a fabric blind on the bottom part of the sash window and privacy glass above.

Windows are great when it’s -5 outside! Obviously people install bathrooms and pay no attention to building regs at all. It’s a clearly a widespread problem!

We always have the window open when showering or bathing. My OH will not hear of having it closed. Sometimes it is so cold the polar bears are shivering but still he insists.

We don’t have any mound though so he may have a point.

Energy? Extractor fan?

A modern extractor will run for 160 hours on 14p worth of electricity. It uses less energy than a light bulb.
