Any one had sashes with Alternative window company?

I just despair with my sash windows, we had them painted less than 4 years ago and already they look awful with paint peeling off and one of them is rotten. We are thinking of doing an extension, so may wait for builders but am wondering about the alternative window company, who promise wood windows that do not need painting. Anyone any experience of them?

Also interested in other sash window companies anyone has had experience with - I am in SW London.

Thanks

Hi sufferingicecakes, I live in Sutton and had my sash windows replaced 5 years ago and they are in perfect condition still! I had the same problem, my old sash windows were rotting and had paint peeling and they were also sticking a lot when trying to open and close them - a real pain! But I heard about a company called Sash Windows London www.sashwindowslondonltd.co.uk/ and booked them to replace all our sash windows. They did an incredible job! We chose beautiful sash windows that came pre-painted by the company and had a 10-year gaurantee on the paint finish + a 30 year gaurantee on timber rot and decay! We seriously couldn't have gone with anyone better. I would highly recommend them :) They are based in London, too, which is a bonus. Let me know how you get on :)

Thanks, can I ask how many windows, rough sizes, large or smallish, and what you paid please.

We have some floor to ceiling windows, so huge!

You're welcome. So, we got 4 big windows fitted (two were traditional sash windows and the other two were bay sash windows). We were charged around £16,000 if I remember correctly but, for windows that last such a long time and have such great guarantees, it was totally worth it!
Your floor to ceiling windows sound lovely! How many do you have that you would like replaced? It would definitely be worth just giving them a call and chatting through as they can give advice for free and you can decide what you would like to do.

We used CJS exteriors (my parents recommended them to me) and they were totally amazing. The Windows/doors come with guarantees, and the builders are really neat and tidy and polite. The windows take around 6 weeks to be made and are spray painted in the factory so the paint is much more durable. They replaced a v large sash (wood, double glazed) but at the same time did our front door, patio doors and kitchen window. They aren't cheap though -- all that cost £9250.
