House buying sooooo slow....

So we have been looking to buy a house for about a year. Complete disaster of a search. Was way too picky and then we got gazumped. Have finally had an offer accepted on a house but months in and the chain still isn't complete. Would you start looking again? I've lost so much energy and momentum and feel totally despondent. How do I keep going when it's been such a disaster so far? One year in! Uggghh! Please help with advice of how to keep going....

hurraah If the chain isn't complete after months, then maybe you should look at other properties. However, I am assuming you are a first time buyer and have no property to sell? In which case, you do have to be patient since there's not much you can actively do, whereas people buying and selling have to co-ordinate both processes. There are lots of forms to fill in and complete and answer queries. It is time consuming and it is unfortunate that you are likely to have been the start of the chain and therefore in it for the longest time. Many chains collapse because the person at the start gets fed up waiting, but please be aware that another property is not necessarily going to be any quicker.

Thanks for the advice Sickle. I guess I hoped someone in the chain would find a house quite quickly but each person is taking months. This could just go on forever! I can see why first time buyers pull out to be honest as it does feel like everyone is looking for a long time with no end in sight.

Look at buying a house via an auction

However you need ALL the funds in place before you can bid

Check out all the fees and costs

Set a budget
