Hayes, Bromley

We are thinking if moving from East London. Most of our family and friends are abroad or local to East London with one in Bromley. We are thinking of Hayes or somewhere similar.

We have 2 children aged 5 and 9 so ideally want to move asap for 9 year old to settle before second day school. I am chinese while my partner is English and we are looking for somewhere where we will be able to fit in at ease and an area that is very friendly with a good community spirit.

Somewhere close to good schools and more green and perhaps not too far from shopping, restaurants etc if we did want to go out further. We like the village feel of Hayes.

We would like somewhere with lots of children activities going on at least not too far away. Swimming, children clubs, and lots of other families around so kids can make friends locally.

Can anyone give me more information about Hayes, if it fits our requirements or have any other suggestions that might suit us better please?

Are you buying or renting. What is your budget?

I live in Hayes, and I'd say it suits all of your requirements. I live in "old Hayes", which is the "village" part. Great schools, lots of green spaces, Hayes Common being one of them. You're also close to lots of good restaurants too. We're a mixed race couple, with 2 dc and not had any problems.

Depends what your budget is. Hayes isn't cheap for buying or renting.

Hayes or Beckenham would suit. You could get something quite decent for £650. Hayes School is great and you could get something in catchment for £650.

Do you need to commute to London? The Hayes line is looooong but on the plus side you always get a seat or you can bus to Bromley South to get to Victoria.

I will be a stay at home mum but my partner will commute to work but he will drive so train is not a problem. Beckenham we did look at and found it a lot more busy than Hayes. Also looked at Langley schools which we were very impressed with but wanted our children to go to a mixed school.

Where does the teenagers tend to go to for leisure? What is there to do nearby for older children?
