Thinking of moving to Aldershot and would like a bit more info on the areas I'm looking at: Cargate, church lane east/west, grosvenor road ( the end furthest from town) and any other areas around there. Basically walking distance of the station and Weybourne Road.

I used to live off Chruch Lane east. Walking to the station was easy, there was also a nice walk along country lane sto badshot lea garden centre. There are some good primary schools, but not too sure about secondary.

Thanks for the info. School is sorted so not an issue.
Just needing info on any roads, crime, etc. Currently live in a very low crime area and was a bit worried looking at the crime map for Aldershot! Also have heard there are issues in some areas with HMOs

Everyone I know has moved away as soon as they could afford to! Got a poor reputation but I don't know whether it's still justified

Which areas did they live in? Any idea for the reasons for moving away?

Aldershot has a terrible reputation - you'd be much better off in the nicer bits if Farnborough or the upper end if Farnham. Are you from far away? I'd really think twice about living there.

Agree about the bad reputation in some areas but some areas I've heard are fine....What have you heard that'd make you think twice about living in the areas I mentioned

Not looking around Connaught school area.
Church lane east/west, Cargate, grosvenor road (the church lane end) or other roads in the area

Name changed for this

I live in Fleet, and have to go to Aldershot for DDs gymnastics and for work (community nurse). We saw a show at princess hall, and I do park run there every week. I wouldn't live there, despite the fact it's 5 miles from my actual house, and we could be mortgage free. Crazy huh?

It's not very nice.

The town centre is nasty - lots of people out drinking during the day. Massive Gurkha population who are clearly being taken advantage of by slum land lords. The properties fall into disrepair but nobody refurbished them. It's bad and getting worse. When I've gone into the properties to see patients I'm really saddened by how they live. It shouldn't affect you, but it's worth knowing that the areas you mention are highly populated with HMOs.

The new west gate centre with cinema and restaurants is nice, and the new Morrisons is ok.

Aldershot just seems soul less. Big fluid military population that doesn't settle. Nobody really cares about it.

Lido is enormous fun in the summer though.

The best thing in Aldershot is the road out of it.

Yes, Aldershot is a bit grim, really. But just because you live in the area doesn't mean you have to shop or socialise in the town itself. If you find a nice property on a nice road it might be okay.

I never had any trouble, but didn't go out to the town centre at night( due to kids not a safety thing). I always felt safe. However, I do agree with the statement about the influx of Nepalese and slum landlords and It has no doubt got worse in the 5 years since I left.

I lived in one of the streets you mentioned and really liked it, you get a lot more for your money.

Boxalls road is almost Hale. Have you visited the places or is it a Rightmove search at this point?

Still wouldn't do it tbh.

Yes, I'm familiar with the areas. Boxalls lane is just in from Weybourne..

I live in Farnham, our village ( or what would have been our village before they built on all the land between the villages leaving them with no real boundaries, anyhoo I digress) is close to the Hampshire border. You would not get me within an asses roar of Aldershite and even the houses that are marketed as the Farnham end of Aldershite, are still Aldershite.

Sound as like a resounding "avoid" then! Having had a chance to wander around there, i would agree. I certainly didn't feel as "safe" as I do where I live at the moment. Thanks for all the comments - really helpful:)

Farnham side by st michaels church road is okay. I know people who live there and have never had a problem. The Nepalese community isn't a problem. Huge drug problem round Denmark square area. Most of the army families are okay but some are really scary. I used to teach at a school in Aldershot, and fights between parents of the dcs had to be split up regularly. Rough town centre. When we moved to the area we looked in Aldershot and the estate agent told us there's a reason it's cheap.
I used to live in Farnborough. Reasonable house prices feels safer. Although the Asda had a sign saying 'this is a family store can all customers wear tops.' GrinThere's loads for dcs to do and great parks.
