Tell me what to do first please - floor replacement

We bought a 1930s house a few years ago and have lived with the previous owners decor while we saved up. We are now in a position to replace the floors throughout the downstairs, carpet the stairs and decorate the main bedroom.
I have two questions:

  1. What order would you replace and redec?

  1. I'm getting either karndean or wood floor and like it where the edge of the floor meets the skirting board with no piping or beading. Do I have to remove the skirting board, replace the floor and then put new skirting back on top? Or, does the new skirting have to be in place before the floor?

I'm a fully grown adult with a demanding job but I have no clue when it comes to things like this.

Thanks!

Skirting board off, floor down, then replace skirting.

what fecking says
also I would redecorate the bedroom before replacing the landing/stairs carpet if you are going to have to drag anything out and down the stairs.

I've just done it last week, and to be honest it was a total ball ache emptying the rooms!

It just feels like an enormous project. I'm trying to break it down into smaller jobs to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The bedroom needs new flooring and plastering.
To make matters worse my husband and I do not work well as a team in redecorating situations!

Thanks tremolo

One alternative to conventional beading for covering the expansion gap is this low level trim:

I've used this where removal of high skirting on old walls would have caused significant damage, and it looks very good and unobtrusive, IMHO.

Thanks fluorine. It is high skirting on old walls.
