Should I use this builder?

We're extending our house. Had a few quotes shortlisted 4 builders & just had building regs drawings done. One of the builders has emailed to say he can fit us in short notice next week as his current job is going to finish early and next job been pushed back.

He's said he'll give us a discount if we go for this slot. He was already the cheapest but not our fave on the shortlist.

His current job is round the corner from us and the homeowner is ringing me later to give feedback.

Dh thinks it's too good to be true. .. should we go for it? Might have to wait a couple of months if we don't.

You always have to wait for good builders, if he's not that busy that is a worrying sign.

Coupled with your feeling he's not your favourite, I would give it a miss.

I would avoid. Maybe he has been kicked off the job and is getting a friend to phone you.

Why would he drop his rate too. It makes him sound like he is desperate for work and isn't busy at all.

Its best to pay more money and wait the extra time to get a decent tradesman.

Sometimes people cancel and you can seize the day ... But you must knock on door when he has done work to be sure.
