Removal men packing - what to expect

So, we've just moved, and used a recommended local company to do our removals. We've done the same before, with a much larger firm, and our experience was quite different. Before I send my big email of complaint, I'm just wanting to check what is normal.

They moved all our wardrobes, cupboards and chests of drawers with the contents still inside. That's not normal or sensible is it? They actually put extra stuff in the chests of drawers, which are just IKEA jobs, and the drawers aren't sliding in and out properly anymore (haven't got around to investigating how fixable it is). They moved a giant wooden cabinet with all our LPs and CDs inside. Aside from anything else it must have weighed a ton.

Anyway, their general level of competence was pretty Chuckle Brothers, so I have plenty of other stuff to go in the email, but I wasn't sure if transporting cupboards etc fully loaded was normal or not....

not in my experience.

Clothes cupboards and chests - yes. Wardrobes, not always. They usually stuff stuff in to fill them to stop things moving.

Yea that's my experience, everything was moved with stuff still in - nothing was broken the other end though.

We moved last week and our movers emptied out wardrobes but not drawers or cabinets.

Not my experience. Our removals put stuff from wardrobes into special boxes with hanging rails, drawers were emptied and boxed. ~They were fab and a local company.

Did you specify they were to pack everything up as well as move things? Sounds a daft question but I'm wondering if they had expected you to have put everything in boxes etc yourselves and due to time constraints etc just did what they thought was best (even though they should have asked)?

Ah hang on just remembered, chests of drawers were moved as one but clothes were put onto a clothes rail then put back in to wardrobes the other end.

My removal men moved the kitchen bin. It was full of rubbish Blush They also moved our old empty chimney pots with nothing in them but soil Blush

Fairylea - yes, we paid for packing. Interesting that it's normal. Our last removers emptied everything and we're fantastic. They were a lot more expensive, but we moved a lot further.
These guys were rubbish,so I think I'm questioning everything they did. I might leave this off the list of complaints. The fact they left our dining table behind I will mention :D

I think they were wrong to move all the stuff inside stuff as you paid for packing. That seems very lazily done to me.

If you paid for a packing service then it should have been packed. That's what you are paying for. I think they just wanted to do it as quickly as possible to make more money from the job.

Leaving things is just asking for something to get damaged. Hopefully they will be reasonable and sort this out for you.
