How much to fit a new boiler?

Our boiler packed in on Friday and we have a policy with Homeserve which insures it. They have said that we can either have £200 towards a new boiler or they will provide a new one under the policy but we have to have it fitted by their installers and this is likely to cost £700 -£1000.

The boiler we had is a Keston, who are no longer in business and they have offered an Ideal Logica as a replacement, which seems ok, but I am not sure about the fitting costs, which seem quite high. I am worried that they might be overcharging on the fitting costs to get back the additional cost of supplying a new boiler.

Has anybody any experience of this?

I paid £800 to have mine moved off an external wall I was having knocked down to the opposite wall.
Initial quote was £1200 but my builder haggled them down. It took 2 men 2 days to do and included all the new pipes, flushing out system etc.
I'd expect replacing a boiler in the same place would cost less than that as all our pipes had to be moved.

we had a new boiler fitted in Jan, it was £950 for the actual boiler and our gas safe local fitter charged us £400 for installation but it was exactly like for like fitments etc

I've just paid just under £2k for a new 33kw combi boiler. Two men worked 8-4, took out old boiler and hot water tank etc and fitted the new one.

I'm in the NE so typically cheaper than other areas of the country.

I don't have to hand how much was parts and labour, but your quote doesn't some too bad to me.

I was recently quoted £1800 all in for a new Ideal boiler (not sure of model, comes with long warranty) and installation, system flush and gas safety cert, from a reputable plumber I've used before. In the Medway / Kent area if that helps?

Thanks for further comments. Engineer has now been round and says we need a 55kw boiler which should be covered under the policy, so it sounds as though it will definitely be better to go that route, although I am still waiting for a price for installation.

Don't get an Ideal, I had ten years of trouble. My plumber (friend of friend, excellent and honest) only recommends Valiant and Worcester. Do some research into the model. New Valiant combi Booker, moved pipe work etc 1700 for us, Yorkshire.

I had 7 years of trouble with an Ideal (from the day it was fitted pretty much) until British Gas Homecare could repair it no more . Would only have Vailant or Worcester Bosch now,

Thanks, I have spoken to another engineer (independent, not Homeserve), who seems to think it is the mother board so likely to be fixable, coming tomorrow - yipeee, I may yet have hot water over Easter when there will be a houseful of people!

Also, it seems that the information given by the first engineer was incorrect and that Keston, although now part of Ideal, are still producing new products!

chopinschopsticks - So were you able to get your Keston boiler working or had to install a new one please?

Ours is 9 years old and been giving intermittent fan related error E05. Works fine when I reset. Does it any time of the day 1-3 times typically. Thanks
