Carpetright carpets - are they ok or avoid like the plague?

Just decorated DS's (4) bedroom. He is a very typical boy - into everything, forgets to take his shoes off, loves a bit of mud and dirt. Love him to bits, but he leaves chaos in his wake...

We need a new carpet for his room. OH wants to go to John Lewis, as that's where he's always bought carpets from. I've priced up, and for similar carpet, JL is £16 psm and Carpet right is £8 psm. Carpet right's fitting is also less - £3.50 psm v JL £4.50. Not too bothered about this.

I think the liklihood of DS doing something involving the carpet is quite likely over the next 10 years (dodgy science experiment, illicit smoking etc), and therefore would rather spend less. He thinks it's a bad investment and we'll end up replacing because it's crap before DS destroys it.

Both carpets we're considering are 100% propolyene (sp?) and bleach cleanable. We have bought expensive underlay separately to be laid.

Please share your experiences, good or bad. I need to make my mind up and get it ordered!

Should say the order is 20 m2 and so the price difference is around £200.

Carpetright is fine - the carpets with the coating to resist stains are very good. The underlay and fitting is a bit overpriced but not as much as JL.
Don't let them grind silly putty into it though...

We used carpet right before and it was fine, especially for children's rooms where let's face it you won't see much carpet most of the time anyway

I've had a carpet right too which was fine but when I re did the house it was cheaper still with a local independent

We've used Carpetright before as it was for an insurance claim and the voucher we got could only be used there. Was a bit expensive but as you know, not as bad as some place (eg JL). We went for the budget range for our lounge and bedroom, bleach cleanable like you're looking at, as carpet was very pale. We moved a couple of years after having it fitted but it was fine until then and is probably still going strong!

I see you have decided, but just to add we used Carpetright for our whole downstairs and it has been fine. Also haggle with them, we asked for a discount and were shocked when they just agreed. Even if you just say, "that is more than I was hoping to pay, can you do it any cheaper?"

Did the whole of a flat I rent out in Carpetright about 8 years ago and it still looks like new despite 3 lots of tenants! (Luckily I have had lovely tenants)

Yup, another OK for Carpetright. Used it to redec my father's flat before we sold it, so can't testify as to longevity, but reasonable price, heplful service, both estimator and fitters all turned up when they were meant to and fitters cleaned up after themselves. I'd use them again.
