Help! How on earth do I use this dead space in my kitchen?

I'm about to have a big kitchen sort out and move around to make it more streamlined. Mostly it's fine other than needing some new shelves here and there apart from this corner...

The space underneath the work surface goes all of the way back to the wall, I would store the Hoover there, but it won't fit in because the edge is too close to the wall... Same with the top, there's a big space that goes all of the way up to the ceiling that I'm sure we could utilise a lot better.

Currently the underneath is home to a tree stump (thought it might be a good wood store at one point - it wasn't), lots of bags for life, some umbrellas and DPs guitar (definitely doesn't need to be in the kitchen!) These things do no have to be there!

Lovely MNers, what can I do to make this look better and become a usable space?! aside from clear the crap out of there Who on earth designed this kitchen?!?!

My sister has something like this and they had a custom spice rack built on the free wall space. It looks awesome. PeggyBlomquist are you my sister? I have a similar space the ironing board hangs on one side with the broom and I have a fitted spice rack on the other side with the bottom rack big enough for vinegar type bottles. There's a shell at the top which houses first aid kit and cool bags. Bottom is for boxes of dog food it's probably my favourite cupboard now it's organised it houses stuff I always struggled with.

We have a space like that under an old-fashioned marble slab in the pantry. The cat bowls go there, because the cats prefer to have have their backs to a wall and good sight lines when eating (ex feral, still a bit mad). It's known as 'the cats' dining room'

If our household didn't have neurotic cats I would probably shelve halfway out and use it to store dry goods.

Yes, sorry it was 2 photos together. My phone is having issues with photos at the moment. I would love to have a wheely thing in there, truoble is you wouldn't be able to get it in and out. The gap between the sticking out bit of built in cupboard and the edge of the kitchen cabinets is only 28cm

I'm thinking 2 shelves that go above the tiles and all the way around the corner. Hopefully they will disguise the ugly pipe a bit!!

Aha!! Perfect solution for the shelves I think I'll get them up and rearrange the kitchen and keep thinking about the underneath. Definitely a good idea to put the ironing board there
