Renovating small bathroom but sloping ceiling over bath

I want to put in a new suite with a vanity unit under the sink and a power shower over the bath

1. (i am a newbie to this)Do i buy the toilet and sink together and buy the bath separately as I have not seen a suite with all the pieces I want ?
   
2. The plumber said it would not be a good idea to move the bath to the opposite wall which is not sloping as it would be too expensive and there is a lot of old caste iron pipework (in an old building)
   

He suggested making an artificial extension to the wall over the bath to give extra space to hang the shower/shower curtain

1. Should I buy a smaller bath so then the above will not be necessary4

Yes, you can buy the sanitaryware from different shops. There is a very small chance that they may not be exactly the same shade of white if they are bought from different companies but I've always done this and I can't say it has every been a problem.

It depends how much you want to spend on your bathroom suite but I always search expensive names on ebay - it's amazing how many people buy a nice loo/sink/whatever and then change their mind and sell on for a fraction of the original price

cast iron soil pipes are fairly hard to work on. Sometimes they break and if a fragment of cast iron falls down the pipe it will be very wearisome and expensive.

It can be cut with a diamond disk, or the lead sealing the joints can be melted with a blowtorch (but might fall down the drain and cause a blockage)

Perhaps your plumber has had a bad experience, or is a young feller and never learned to do it. If you are in a block of flats it could be especially tiresome.

There is not much difference between an expensive suite and a cheap one, except that expensive ones sometimes have fashionable sharp corners and WC pans needing a square or non-traditional shape of seat, which you will never be able to replace.

The taps make the biggest difference. If you have a cold-water tank, buy British taps, not stylish imports.

Avoid pop-up wastes, which will leak.
