Installing pine floorboards

I am soon starting a house renovation and I am looking for solid pine floorboards. Anyone have any advice on good value places to buy this? I am looking for wide boards which I will oil with a pale stain (Scandinavian look).

Do sawmills cut timber into boards?

Are you nailing them down - i.e. completely new floorboards?

Pine flooring is quite hard to find as most people choose oak I guess.

Wood yards sell knotty pine tongue and groove flooring which should be properly dried and stored so it doesn't shrink in your house. You nail it down in so the nail heads get hidden in the grooves (secret nailing). This is quite a cheap and cheerful option.

Slightly nicer option pitch pine

You can get special finishing oils that give a pale finish.

If you want a floating floor better to have engineered, look at Admonter there are a few UK stockists.

It's quite a soft wood so it will wear a bit- Scandinavians never wear shoes indoors and have loads of rugs! We have Admonter Larch and TBH after 8 or 9 years a couple of high wear spots really do need re-sanding.

Thank you. Having always had original pine floorboards in previous homes I guess I'm just suprised about the lack of availability on the market. Larch may be a good idea. Haven't really thought about engineered flooring as I am quite keen on the floorboard effect. I will maybe consider it though if boards prove hard to get.

Pitch pine is the nearest to traditional floor boards. I know what you mean - original floorboards are lovely. You can easily buy reclaimed ones if you want that look.
