Third what time did you get the keys?

I've moved twice and on both occasions have been second in the chain. On both occasions keys have been available at 11.30am. Half expecting it to be around 2.30pm this time with being the third on up, but just wondering how it worked for others. There are five in the chain, so wouldn't want to be number five.

We are hoping to complete around the end of May and I never really thought about what position you are in the chain impacting upon what time you get the keys... so will be watching this post with interest!

We are 6 in our chain (if you include the investment buyer at the start and the family going into rented at the end!). We are number 3 Blush

all parties in the chain should "exchange" at exactly the same time.

Otherwise when the music stops there might be someone with no chair.

Ps simultaneous is right for exchange but on the day of completion they are not all simultaneous. The first in the chain happens first and second second etc... Releasing the £££ up the chain! So most expensive house at top is normally last .

It was in our contract that we had to hand over keys by 14.00 assuming money had gone through so position in chain wouldn't necessarily have made any difference as we had that grace built in.

I think money had gone through by about 11.30 but we had cleaners in and we had advised our buyers in advance we would be cleaning that morning. I let them know they could have keys just after 13.00 when cleaners had finished and they picked them up from me about 15 minutes later. By that time we already had keys for our new house but tbh I would have preferred it if they'd had cleaners in like us and I'd had to wait a while!

When we last moved house we had packed up and sat waiting in an empty house all day waiting for the estate agent to ring us to say we could collect the keys. I think it was nearer 3pm when we got them.

We ended up exchanging and completing on the same day (we weren't in a chain and our vendors had got themselves in a pickle). We finally got the keys at 2am the day after the house became ours!

About 2. The EA went out for lunch! We were waiting for him at the office and the movers outside our new house!

Hopefully time will work out well then. Removers say they plan to have everything cleared by noon. We will then spend on hour or two hovering, dusting, cleaning bathroom (unless our buyer turns up and wants us out). Luckily there's a café and all day pub near the estate agents (who are open at lunchtime), so we could go there.

Our buyer (first in the chain) completed about 11.30pm - we were expecting it to be 1pm earliest so the removal team were still loading the last boxes. We got our keys (second in chain) about 12.45. I know you wanted to know about third in chain but thought I'd pop in just in case it helps.

last time I sold a house, I was expecting completion to be about noon, but it happened about 9am. I had slept on the floor the previous night after all the furniture went. The new owner came round with her mum while I was hoovering after packing. I went round the meters with her, showed her the tray, card, champagne and spare keys we had left, and said she could keep the hoover if she wanted it.

She went back home (not far) while I finished off, probably didn't want to get in my way.

We moved here last autumn.
our buyers where in rented and decided to move in a couple of days after we had moved out.
the people we were buying from had moved in with their parents the week before as they had pulled out of their purchase and were still looking for somewhere. they came back to clean on the morning that we were due to move in and they said we could start bringing our stuff round-our solicitor had actually suggested we could make this arrangement.
we were second in chain of 3 we officially had the keys at 2.30pm- completion, but we had already moved in and cleaned our old house by then which was lucky as from 3pm we had heavy rain for the rest of the day.
I don't know how often that happens.

we are 3rd from the top (as in first time buyer is 1st - is that how it's counted? ) in a 6-link-chain.

just exchanged this Friday, moving on n 23rd. it's confusing - we are supposed to be out by noon, but DH says we won't get keys till 3pm or so.

I'll be 7months pg - I'm not looking forward to sitting in a car for hours, with no toilet available.Confused

I don't know why we just don't get keys in the morning all at the same time.
