Farrow and ball white dark hall

Hi painting hall white. It's a large area, lots of sloping ceilings and angles so will be all one colour. It can be dark especially upstairs, no natural light when bedroom doors are closed. Plain brilliant white is a bit boring, can anyone recommend a shade of white? It will lead into a room with french grey (or a johnstones copy of french grey!) any help appreciated thx

Well I wouldn't touch farrow and ball for a start. Watery paint that takes lots of layers. Try little greene. They have nice off whites.

Putting white paint on you hall will not magically lighten it up as there is very little natural light to bounce off the walls. Better to go with a darker colour (and more on trend) which will make the rooms off the hall lighter and brighter.

Pointing is lovely. Although our decorators hate Farrow and Ball. They begrudgingly used F&B in one room, but I gave in to their pressure and went with Dulux for the rest Grin. You cannot tell which is the upmarket paint though, I'm convinced of it.

We used Dulux Roman White, which is nice, as is Cocoa Blush 5 (a white with a pinkish tinge).

I do think you need warm colour in the flooring to avoid it looking dreary, or other colour in paintings, radiators etc. My neighbours have super-bright matte fuschia below a dado rail, with white above and a wooden floor. Sounds horrible, actually looks great.

Farrow and Ball is excellent paint and only takes one coat. It gives a lovely finish and lasts for years. Our entire house is painted in White Tie, which is slightly off-white.
We love it so much we even paid 124€ for a five litre can of it last week.
