Anyone had UPVC painted?

We recently moved and our house has a horrid white UPVC door which we can't afford to replace at the moment. I have seen on the internet, firms that use special paints and primers to spray paint your doors or windows a new colour. Not sure of price but substantially less than a new door.

Anyone had this done?

no

but I have painted plastic downpipes, meter boxes etc with non-drip gloss and a paintbrush, with excellent results. No primer or undercoat, and clean it very thoroughly, finally with wire wool or green scourer and white spirit. It helps if you have had practice at gloss painting outdoors.

Really? You think a door would hold the paint? Scared to try!

I have Lagoon. I painted the front door of our previous house.
I used a primer like you've suggested-it was for painting upvc I think (10 yrs ago).

My mistake? Using a matt paint. It went on ok and wasnt patchy (did 2 coats) but it was very dull looking and paint strokes etc were very obvious. I think I was expecting it to look like coloured pvc!
It certainly looked better than it did though and lasted for the final 18 months we stayed in the property.

I suppose it depends how soon you will be in a position to change it for a nice hardwood door in a nice hardwood frame. I wouldn't want to spend much on a plastic door. You might just live with it for a bit.

I have some PVC pipes that I painted more than 20 years ago. The paint is still adhering but it has lost its shine.
