The fresh Hell that is packing, advice needed!

Despite moving 30squilliontimes a lot previously we have never moved with children before, now we have 2 and the house is full of 'stuff' old baby equipment that we won't need again, clothes that are either too small or waiting to be charity shopped, old toys, paperwork shoved into boxes etc.

I know I need to get rid of most of this 'stuff' but it seems quite daunting, I keep making lists of what to do with what in each room but I never get it all down, or fail to start because I am not sure what to do with it all.

any advice or tips would be very much appreciated

One room at a time. Sort it into stuff to take, stuff to get rid of, then get rid of the stuff - charity shop is easiest, but donating to friends or selling on ebay are options too.

Pack as much of the rest of the stuff you think you can manage without until moving day.

I can guarantee that when you unpack, you'll wonder why you decided to "save" at least 30% of the stuff you packed!

I found free cycle to be a life saver last time I moved - you can just add listings and people will email and arrange a time to pick stuff up from your house, so you can carry on packing in the meantime. You can list individual items or binbags of mixed stuff, I had takers for everything straight away. You can do eBay for any more valuable items.

concentrate on getting stuff out of the door. That means you stop moving it around.

so take a trip to the charity shop and dump.

I think I am going to have to be a bit brutal!
I have had DD(19m) trying to retrieve her unloved toys out of the charity shop bags, telling me 'no mummy, no, mine!'

Can I donate children's toys/equipment to hospitals? some have never been used! I would rather they go to someone genuinely in need iykwim?

Yes I definitely need to get rid of most of it, we rent now and it is bigger than the house we have bought, I want a nice non messy, uncluttered home.
that's never going to happen is it!

I am freecycling charity shopping and tipping it all at the moment. Once you get going it's alright and am finding the process quite cathartic!
