What oil for an Ikea wooden worktop?

I moved into a house with an Ikea kitchen - its about 7 years old but still going strong and looking great. I've done nothing to the wooden worktop (my excuse is that I like the rustic look....) - it looks like the beech one they stock now, and where it's used and wiped clean frequently it has gone paler. So I think it's time to get into gear to re-oil it.

Any recommendations of what to use? The Osmo oil has been recommended but there are loads of different types and I'm not sure which one would be best! And how long do I have to leave it to dry after oiling?

Teak oil available from local hardware store. Linseed is too pungent.

Another vote for the Osmo stuff pannacotta linked too. The guy who just painted my kitchen units (works for Martin Moore, Clive Christian) says it's the best stuff around.

amazonian so you have your kitchen, how is it coming together?!

Yes it only took 8 years Hmm

I managed to find an ex display Thomas & Thomas one (similar to Martin Moore) for a fraction of the full price. Just had the units painted (took 2 attempts to get the right colour!) and it's fab. The island is teak and I've Osmo'd it to within an inch of its life...

How's your new kitchen??

Sounds fab, well done. Mine took 5 years so not far behind....
It is lovely to have a proper kitchen at last, don't find it easy to keep it looking nice though, I like to cook and am a bit messy so it is never pristine...
What colour are your units?
I think my fitter used 6 coats of Osmo and so far its doing well, am glad I went for wooden worktops I think they are much softer looking and sounding....

The island is mouse's back and the wall/floor units are stony ground. Had a bit of a nightmare finding colours to go with the cream range cooker, wish I'd chosen black...

I've done 3 or 4 coats of Osmo, think I should really apply a couple of extra coats, will do one tonight Smile

I love cooking too and I'm messy too. My kitchen will never look minimalist and streamlined.

Having a lived in kitchen is probably a good thing, makes a home inviting, well I tell myself that anyway!
Your colours sound great, don't forget to oil the undersides of the worktop too.
Good luck!
